🎬 Reveries (2018, 46min, dir. Graham Mason)
🎬 Reveries: Going Deeper (2020, 1hr, dir. Graham Mason)
Come on out and see a double feature like no other. Back-to-back surreal, absurdist tone poems. We cannot wait to share these films with more folks, truly two of our favorites. A huge thank you to Michigan-native director Graham Mason and stars/writers Matt Barats and Anthony Oberbeck. We’ll have a pre-show sharing and celebrating the work of those involved in making this film.
Reveries: Behind dark sunglasses, two mysterious drifters share their latest collection of thoughts, stories, and strange memories.
Reveries: Going Deeper: In a dystopian society, two mysterious drifters transmit pirate radio broadcasts from their underground bunker, journeying deep into their own minds…deeper than they've ever been before.
The People’s Joker Film Favorites!
Thanks to everyone for coming to see The People’s Joker and for the discussion afterwards! We are so happy to be able to bring this film to the big screen for Kalamazoo’s theatrical premiere and loved the enthusiasm of the crowd. Thanks also to everyone for suggesting some really great films! We have also updated the ongoing Letterboxd list for all audience film favorites. The attendees at The People’s Joker suggested:
Lanka
All of Dylan Greenberg (film director and musician)
Troma-approved. Instagram: dylanmarsgreenberg. Facebook: disckmedia
Shortbus (2006, dir. John Cameron Mitchell)
Formative bb Lanka media. Raunchy, dynamic cast, follows a range of protagonists. Great visuals & soundtrack. Middle coming-of-age from the director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch!!
Ben B.
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1990, dir. Peter Greenaway)
Jaw dropping, beautiful costumes & set design, and in my opinion one of the best food films of all time.
Conor
Titane (2021, dir. Julia Ducournau)
A raw, sensually evocative exploration of the experience of existing in a body that feels wrong. Also the lead actor SLAYS. Neon lights cool.
Max M.
Society (1989, dir. Brian Yuzma)
More movies should have weird sex and incest.
V
Evil Dead (1981, dir. Sam Raimi)
Because it’s the greatest Michigan-made horror movie of all time, baby!
Keeper
Pom Poko (1994, dir. Isao Takahata)
❤️Pro ecoterrorism❤️
Drew
Bottoms (2023, dir. Emma Seligman)
Like tonight’s movie, unabashedly queer while being wildly irreverent & politically incorrect!
Logan
They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969, dir. Sydney Pollack)
Depression era marathon dancing with great actors. I have only seen it in shitty quality because I can’t find it anywhere else (even illegally).
Monoform note: Check out this film on DVD from KPL!
Alex
Speed Racer (2008, dir. Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski)
An explosion of color, camp & fun. The Wachowskis successfully bring an anime to life.
